Negatif kısaltmalar

Yazılı İngilizcede, genellikle bir zamir ve bir yardımcı fiil ile kısaltmalar oluştururuz, ancak bir isim ve yardımcı fiil ile değil.

Example:

She’d not eaten much of her porridge.
(but not:The girl’d/Little Miss Muffet’d not eaten much of her porridge.)

Fiilin + not birleştirildiği olumsuz kısaltmalar, önlerine ne tür bir kelime gelirse gelsin her zaman kullanılabilir.

Example:

She hadn’t eaten much of her porridge.
The girl/Little Miss Muffet hadn’t eaten much of her porridge.

Spelling Rules/Yazım kuralları

Fiil -e ile biterse, sadece -d ekleriz

Example:

love– loved (not: loveed)

Son ünsüz kısa vurgulu bir ünlüden sonra iki tane olur

Example:

admit– admitted

İngiliz İngilizcesinde bir sesli harften sonra son ünsüz -l her zaman iki tane olur, ancak Amerikan İngilizcesinde değildir.

Example:

travel– travelled (British), traveled (American)

Fiilin sonunda -y varsa -i ile değişir

Example:

hurry– hurried

Past perfect vs past simple karşılaştırma

Past perfect simple: I had fixed
Past simple: You arrived

Past perfect simple, hangi olayın önce gerçekleştiğini göstermek için geçmişteki olayları sıralamak için kullanılır.

Compare (Karşılaştırma)

The music started when the curtains opened.	Past simple + past simple: perdelerin açılmasıyla aynı anda müzik başladı.
The music had (already) started when the curtains opened.	Past perfect simple + past simple: müzik başladı ve sonra perdeler açıldı.

Geçmiş zaman genellikle iki olayın zamanı arasında daha güçlü bir bağlantı olduğunu gösterir.

Compare (Karşılaştırma)

When she came through the door, everyone shouted, ‘Surprise! Happy Birthday!’.	Past simple + past simple: Bu cümle, kız kapıdan içeri girdiğinde herkesin hemen bağırdığını gösteriyor ‘Surprise!’.
When she had read all the greetings cards, she made a short thank-you speech.	Past perfect simple + past simple: bu cümle, konuşmasını yapmadan önce kartları okumayı bitirdiğini vurguluyor.

Past perfect tense kullanıldığı yerler

Past Perfect tense, geçmişteki başka bir eylemden önceki eylemi ifade eder. Bu geçmişte geçmiştir. Örneğin:

I had caught ten fish before my dad caught one.	Babam bir tane yakalamadan önce ben on tane balık tutmuştum.
We had lived in Kızılcahamam before we came Ankara.	Ankara’ya gelmeden önce Kızılcahamam’da oturduk.
If I had studied harder, I’d have passed this test.	Daha sıkı çalışsaydım bu testi geçerdim.
They were hungry. They had not eaten for five hours.	Açlardı. Beş saattir yemek yememişlerdi.
I didn’t know who he was. I had never seen him before.	Onun kim olduğunu bilmiyordum. Onu daha önce hiç görmemiştim.
When we found our dog, he had gotten stuck in a fence.	Köpeğimizi bulduğumuzda bir çite sıkışıp kalmıştı.
He’d started a new painting when I entered the studio.	Stüdyoya girdiğimde yeni bir resim yapmaya başlamıştı.
Before we could even ask, they’d already gotten us refills.	Daha biz soramadan, bize yedekleri çoktan getirmişlerdi.
I had just finished my breakfast when Zach knocked on the door.	Zach kapıyı çaldığında kahvaltımı yeni bitirmiştim.
After she had finished the university, she found a very good job.	Üniversiteyi bitirdikten sonra çok iyi bir iş buldu.
She had not eaten much of her porridge when a spider frightened her away.	Bir örümcek onu korkutup kaçırdığında yulaf lapasının çoğunu yememişti.
She didn’t eat any of the stew because she had already eaten a big lunch.	Zaten büyük bir öğle yemeği yemiş olduğu için güveçten hiç yemedi.
She swore that a creepy statue had been in the hallway just a moment ago.	Az önce koridorda ürkütücü bir heykelin olduğuna yemin etti.
The train left at 9am. We arrived at 9:15am. When we arrived, the train had left.	Tren sabah 9’da hareket etti. 9: 15’te vardık. Vardığımızda tren kalkmıştı.
When the detective arrived, the police had already built a perimeter around the crime scene.	Dedektif geldiğinde, polis olay yerinin çevresini çoktan çevrelemişti.
If the spider had not frightened her, she would have finished her porridge sitting on her tuffet.	Örümcek onu korkutmasaydı, tüfesinin üzerinde oturarak yulaf lapasını bitirirdi.
